Abdelouahab Aissaoui (Algeria) was born in 1985. He graduated in Electromechanical Engineering from Zayan Ashour University in Djelfa and works as a maintenance engineer. His first novel, Jacob's Cinema, was published in 2013 and came first in the novel category of the President of the Republic Prize. In 2013, his short story collection Fields of the Willow received a commendation from the Sharjah Prize for Arab Creativity. He recently won the Assia Djebar Prize, widely regarded as the most important prize for the novel in Algeria. His latest novel, Mountain of Death (2015), tells the story of Spanish Communists imprisoned in North African camps after losing the Civil War. The book was published to great acclaim in Algeria and came first in a national competition organised by the Wadi Souf Creative Union.
