Professor Rasheed El-Enany

Professor Rasheed El-Enany is Professor of Arabic and Comparative Literature and Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies; Professor Emeritus of the University of Exeter where he taught and researched into modern Arabic literature for 35 years. His latest publications include Arab Representations of the Occident: East-West Encounters in Arabic Fiction (London: 2006) and Naguib Mahfouz: His Life and Times (London and Cairo: 2007). He is editor of the Edinburgh Studies in Modern Arabic Literature monograph series, the only such series in English, published by the Edinburgh University Press. He also writes in Arabic and his latest book is Interrogating the Text: Studies in Arabic Narration (Cairo: 2006).
