Shortlist Announced

Baha Taher, Jabbour Douaihy, Khaled Khalifa, Elias Farkouh, May Menassa, and Mekkaoui Said are the six authors shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction 2008, a prestigious new literary prize which aims to reward excellence in contemporary Arabic creative writing and to encourage wider readership of quality Arabic literature internationally. There were 131 entries from 18 countries.

The shortlist was announced by the chair of judges, Samuel Shimon, at a press conference at BAFTA in London today (Tuesday 29th January), with a simultaneous announcement in Abu Dhabi.

The six shortlisted books were chosen from over 130 titles and are: (in the alphabetical order of the authors names)

IPAF in the Abu Dhabi Book Fair

IPAF is organizing a series of events with the Abu Dhabi Book Fair (which will take place between the 11th and the 16th of March). These events include interviews with the winning author of the first IPAF (announced on the 10th of March in Abu Dhabi), as well as meetings with the 5 other shortlisted authors, a discussion panel about our new Prize, and much more. IPAF Shortlist announcement

The six short listed titles and authors for the inaugural International Prize for Arabic Fiction will be announced in London on January 29 2008, during a press conference which will take place at 12 noon at BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly. Another press conference will take place simultaneously in Abu Dhabi, at the Emirates Foundation headquarters, in order to announce the shortlist to the Arab media. The names of the six judges of the first round of the Prize will also be disclosed during the same event.
