| 131 novels have been submitted for the second International Prize for Arabic Fiction, of which 121 from 16 countries were eligible submissions. This year’s panel of five judges is now busy reading and evaluating the books. A longlist of 16 novels will be announced via desk release on Tuesday 11 November 2008, with a shortlist of six novels announced on Wednesday 10 December 2008 at the Southbank Centre in London.
The final ceremony will take place in Abu Dhabi on Monday 16 March 2009. The Emirates Foundation, the official sponsor of the IPAF, has invited last year’s shortlisted authors (Baha Taher, Mekkaoui Said, Jabbour Douaihy, May Menessa, Elias Farkouh and Khaled Khalifa) to take part in a series of literary seminars in Abu Dhabi from 22 to 26 November 2008.
