The IPAF Prize was officially launched in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in April 2007.

The inaugural shortlist and the judging panel of 2007/2008 Prize were announced on Tuesday 29 January at a joint press conference, which took place in both London and Abu Dhabi. The winner announcement took place at a ceremony held in Abu Dhabi on 10 March 2008. The winner was Egyptian author Baha Taher, for his novel Sunset Oasis.
