Azazeel by Youssef Ziedan published in English
3 April 2012
The 2009 winner of the International Prize For Arabic Fiction, Azazeel by Youssef Ziedan, has today (3 April 2012) been published in English for the first time. Translated by Jonathan Wright, the novel has been published by Atlantic Books, allowing Ziedan’s writing to reach an entirely new audience.
Set in the 5th century AD, Azazeel is the tale of a Coptic monk’s journey from Upper Egypt to Alexandria, and then Syria during a time of massive upheaval in the early Church, inviting readers to rediscover a lost history and re-think long-held beliefs. It is the first novel by Youssef Ziedan to be published in English.
