Interview with longlisted author Antoine Douaihy

09/02/2018

When did you begin writing The Last Country and where did the inspiration for it come from?

I started writing it in the summer of 2015.

Like all my novels, the inspiration came from my internal world, from the memory of the disappearance of a woman.

Did it take long to write and where were you when you finished it?

It took about two years to write. I was living in North Lebanon, I finished it between our mountain home in the summer in Ahedn, and coffee shop by the Tarablus beach in the winter.

How have readers and critics received it?

It was received with much attention. It was the subject of discussions and several articles tackled its different aspects.

What is your next literary project after this novel?

One of two things: Either to start a new novel or to collect and publish my “Internal Diaries” which are scattered and span the course of a long period of time.
